With the contract of DCI Director Amin Mohammed ending, the critical position of Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will be declared vacant.
President William Ruto appointed Amin Mohammed on 14 October 2022 to replace George Kinoti, who resigned in September 2022. This was formalized through a Gazette Notice signed by the President under Section 30 of the National Police Service Act, 2011.
After reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60, DCI Director Mohamed Ibrahim was granted a two-year contract extension in July 2024, following the end of his original term.
Qualifications and Requirements
According to the National Police Service Commission, to qualify for appointment as Director of Criminal Investigations, a candidate must be a Kenyan citizen and hold a university degree recognized in Kenya.
They should have at least ten years of proven management experience in a public institution and a distinguished career in their field.
Applicants must have knowledge and experience in criminal investigation or policing, along with proven competence in management, law, economics, change management, finance, governance, or public administration.
Candidates must also meet the integrity and ethical standards set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

In addition, interested applicants are required to obtain clearances from the following;
- Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
- Higher Education Loans Board
- Credit Reference Bureau ( CRB)
- Police clearance certificate from the DC
DCI Boss Salary Scale in Kenya
The DCI position is among the highest-paid in the public sector, with a gross monthly salary of KSh 684,233, including allowances for housing, commuting, and a market adjustment.
In addition, the office bearer’s salary is based on the Third Remuneration and Benefits Review Cycle, which covers the financial years 2021/2022 to 2024/2025.
SRC reviewed and set the remuneration and benefits for implementation in two phases in FY 2023/2024 – 2024/2025.

DCI Amin takes home a gross salary of Ksh 684,233, comprising a basic salary of Ksh 410,540, a house allowance of Ksh 100,000, an official commuter allowance, and a salary market adjustment of Ksh 173,693.
The officer also receives an official vehicle, comprehensive medical coverage for themselves, a spouse, and up to four dependent children, as well as dental, optical, maternity, inpatient care, life insurance, personal accident cover, and access to car loans and mortgages.
Retirement benefits include a pension or a service gratuity calculated at 31% of annual pensionable emoluments for the term served.
