Unknown assailants have destroyed polling material that were being transported to polling stations in Chuka/Igambang’ombe
The assailants waylaid a vehicle ferrying the material that was to be used in tomorrow’s polls.
The attackers destroyed sealed boxes containing ballot papers and IEBC official badges scattering them on the scene.
IEBC officials were escorting the material that were being ferried to various polling stations within Igambang’ombe Sub-county.
The materials were being ferried from the Chuka sub county IEBC distribution center
It is yet to be known if elections will proceed in areas whose voting materials were destroyed
IEBC is this afternoon expected to give an update on the issue.
At the moment no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
No one was injured during the incident
Earlier in July, IEBC had it will not print any extra ballot papers for the 2022 polls.
For the presidential election ,the commission printed ballot papers equivalent to the number of registered voters which is 22,120,458
For other positions ,IEBC printed ballots papers equivalent to the number of voters in the county, constituency, or ward
“We all know there’s never 100 percent voter turn out, so destroyed votes will be accommodated in that number” said Chebukati.
