The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is this morning distributing polling material in readiness for Tuesday’s poll.
The exercise is happening across the country
Distribution of polling materials is being coordinated from county and constituency distribution centers
Polling stations will open at 6am and close at 5pm tomorrow
IEBC says it is ready to conduct Tuesday’s polls
Some 14,000 candidates are eyeing various seats, from Member of County Assembly to President.
“All systems are set and we are ready to take off on Tuesday 6am”.
“We have ensured that all materials needed are in the 290 constituencies across the country and we are not waiting for any other materials,” IEBC commissioner Boya Molu said
IEBC hopes for a huge voter turnout more than what was registered in 2017
The 2022 elections will cost a total Sh40.1 billion
On average, IEBC will be spending about Sh1,800 per voter this year.
For this election, IEBC has employed 52,481 presiding officers, and a similar number of deputies presiding officers. It also has hired 302,860 polling clerks.
A huge chunk of the IEBC budget goes to paying personnel to manage and run the election process.
At least 70,000 security personnel have been deployed to provide security during the exercise
