Erick Mutai Kipkoech is the current Governor of Kericho County in Kenya and a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
He is the second governor of the county, having succeeded his predecessor, Prof. Paul Kiprono Chepkwony.
Educational Background of Erick Mutai
Erick Mutai began his formative education at Rugut Primary School, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1996.
This was followed by secondary school education at Litein High School from 1997 to 2001, where he served as dining hall captain.
He pursued higher education at Maseno University, earning a Bachelor of Education (Arts) in History and Government.

He then obtained a master’s degree in literature and communication from the University of Kabianga in 2014.
Mutai later completed a Ph.D. in Comparative Politics at the University of Nairobi, with a focus on governance and political systems.

Erick Mutai began his professional career in education, working as a graduate teacher at Kapkarin Secondary School from 2009 to 2011.
He later transitioned into academia as a lecturer at Embu University, a position he held until his resignation in 2022 to pursue elective office.
Additionally, he also served as director of in-service training programs at Kipsigis Teachers College and sat on the boards of schools.
In August 2022, Mutai was elected Governor of Kericho County, representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
