John Lee is a Kenyan-born British and the founder of Lee Funeral Home. Located in Nairobi, the funeral home offers burial, cremation, repatriation, and exhumation services. It offers personalized burial services, ensuring that each ceremony provides a meaningful and dignified farewell.
The funeral home has been popular for hosting Kenya’s powerful and elite class for many years.
Additionally, the Mortuary has also played a vital role in hosting politicians and the wealthy class, including some of the most influential of Kenyan bodies.
John Lee History
John Lee set up the funeral home in 1987. He was born and raised in Kenya until 1963, when his family relocated back to the United Kingdom (UK).
While in the UK, he joined the men’s police force and worked with medical practitioners.
Lee interacted with many pathologists and undertakers, which gave him the idea of starting his own funeral home.
He started working at Nairobi City Mortuary and at the Nairobi holding room.

“When I returned to Kenya, I was not pleased at the bad condition of the city mortuary,” he said.
Charles Njonjo, who was the chairman of the Nairobi Hospital, called him and asserted his dream of owning a funeral home.
“I have been watching you; would you like to build a funeral home at the grounds of Nairobi Hospital?” Charles Njonjo told him.
John decided to build the funeral home on the key value of ensuring that each ceremony provides a meaningful and dignified farewell.

Charges at Lee Funeral
Lee’s funeral charges include body collection of approximately Ksh5,000, with a daily storage fee of Ksh3,000.
Further, body washing and dressing cost about 5,00,0, with coffins ranging from 35,000 to 130,000.
Besides, if you need Jaguar hearse services, you will need to pay at least Ksh130,000.
Other services have different charges depending on the demand.
Politicians and Influential Resting Place
The funeral home has been a resting place for some of the most influential people in Kenya.
The resting place has watched some of the most powerful and prominent people lie down in cold blood at the mortuary.
Including the former presidents of Kenya, Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki.
Additionally, prominent Kenyans such as the late Senator Mutula Kilonzo, Former Cabinet Secretary of Education Magoha, George Saitoti, and Joseph Nkaissery had their bodies kept at Lee.
Moreover, bodies of other prominent individuals like Jacob Juma, Njenga Karume, and Bob Collymore, the former CEO of Safaricom, were preserved at Lee Funeral Home.
