John Paul Mwirigi is a Kenyan politician and two-term Member of Parliament for Igembe South Constituency, Meru County.
He was first elected in 2017 at age 23, making him the youngest MP in Kenya’s history, and was re-elected in the 2022 general elections.
Mwirigi was born on January 7, 1994.
Educational Background of John Paul Mwirigi
John Paul Mwirigi began his formal education at Riaki Primary School, where he studied from 1999 to 2010, earning his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.
He then attended Kirindine Day Secondary School, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education between 2011 and 2014.
Following secondary school, he enrolled at Mount Kenya University in 2016 to study for a Bachelor of Education (Arts) degree, although as of 2019, he had not yet graduated.
He continued pursuing this qualification on a part-time basis while serving as an MP.
Career Path
John Paul Mwirigi entered Parliament at a remarkably young age. In August 2017, at just 23, he was elected Member of Parliament for Igembe South Constituency as an independent candidate, becoming the youngest ever elected MP in Kenya.
He was re-elected for a second term in August 2022, this time under the UDA ticket.
Before his political career, Mwirigi worked in manual labour, carrying logs at Igembe Tea Factory and serving as a checker at Mulji Debraji & Brothers, while working his way through university.

In Parliament, he served both the Selection Committee and the Departmental Committee on Agriculture & Livestock starting from 2017.

John Paul Mwirigi is the sixth-born in a family of eight siblings, and his family had modest means, but they could afford decent meals, as he testified.
In 2014, his father died.
