Linus Okoth is currently a Software Engineer III at Meta in Menlo Park, California, where he works on Core Compute. Since February 2025, he has delivered major efficiency improvements by reducing data ingestion and shuffling costs by over 95%, enabling significant scaling of machine learning pipelines.
Prior to this role, he worked as a Software Engineer II at Meta from January 2024 to January 2025 and completed a software engineering internship at Meta in late 2022.
Before joining Meta full-time, Linus was a Software Development Engineer at Amazon in Sunnyvale, California, from July 2023 to January 2024, where he helped build distributed systems managing metadata catalogs across various services and databases.
He also interned at Amazon in the summer of 2022.
Linus co-founded Explorate, a volunteer-driven web application, and served as its CTO from September 2020 to July 2022 while at Northwestern University. He redesigned the Explorate web app using Vue.js and secured funding and participation in several startup programs.

His internship experience includes working at Facebook (now Meta) in 2021 on Android, iOS, and API development for the Community Tab, and in 2020 at Facebook University for Engineers, where he developed social connection algorithms and built several Android apps.
Linus also participated in Twitter’s EarlyBird program in 2020, finishing as first runners-up in a tech challenge. Additionally, he attended an undergraduate apprenticeship camp at Goldman Sachs in 2020, learning about engineering and finance industry standards.
Earlier in his career, Linus worked at Equity Bank Limited in Nairobi as a Relationship Officer for one year, where he processed numerous daily transactions and was selected to mentor incoming interns.

Linus Okoth’s Educational Background
Linus earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University, graduating in 2023, with a minor in Data Engineering.
During his studies, he actively participated in several student organizations, including the National Society of Black Engineers, the African Student Association, and the. dev Software Development Club.
He also took part in the Northwestern Emerging Scholars Program (NESP), which focused on applying fundamental mathematical theorems to solve real-world industrial challenges.
