The Gazette Notice identifies the late Hasmukh Patel as the founder of Mombasa Cement and a philanthropist associated with the rehabilitation of the Kibarani dumpsite.
“Hindu Temple – Haile Selassie Avenue Access Road Mvita Sub-County Hasmukh Patel Road The Late Hasmukh Patel — Founder, Mombasa Cement; philanthropist associated with the rehabilitation of the Kibarani dumpsite,” the notice read in part.
The road was named in his honor as part of Mombasa County’s efforts to recognize individuals who made significant contributions to the county’s social and economic development.
Why Mombasa Governor Names Street After the Late Hasmukh Patel
Speaking during the burial of the late Hasmukh Patel on September 1, 2024, Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Shariff Nassir announced plans to honor his legacy through public institutions.
Nassir said he would propose naming a road in Mombasa after Patel, keeping his name associated with the city.
The governor also proposed naming an Early Childhood Development (ECD) center that serves children living with disabilities after Patel.
Nassir said the initiatives would help ensure that Patel’s name and legacy continue to be remembered in Mombasa.
“Well, I will be making a proposal that we will have a road in Mombasa named after the late Hassu. And I will be making a proposal that we will equally have one of our ECD centers that houses children living with disabilities named after Hassu so that the name of Hassubai can be able to live longer,” he said.
