Career and Achievements
In 2021, Justice Antony Charo, in a landmark ruling, sentenced the former DCI George Kinoti to four months in jail for contempt of Court.
In his ruling, Justice Antony Mrima noted that George Kinoti had failed to return firearms from businessman Jimi Wanjigi in 2007.
“There is no new evidence that would make me change my mind regarding the decision to sentence the DCI for contempt of court. The court order for him to surrender to Kamiti Maximum Security Prison to serve the four months will not be suspended,” ruled Justice Mrima.
Following his ruling, Michael Mutembei Kibutha Makarina filed a petition for his removal, alleging gross misconduct and incompetence against the judge in the Jimi Wanjigi case.
Further, as a judge in 2021, Justice Antony Mrima declared the Chief Administrative Secretary positions by the fourth President, Uhuru Kenyatta, unconstitutional due to lack of public participation.
Away from his role as a judge, Mrima served as the Board Chairman of the Coast Water Services Board.
He further served as the National Chairman of the Agricultural Society of Kenya and as the Branch Chairman of ASK Mombasa.
Further, Justice Antony Charo Mrima also served as the Board Chairman of Kilifi Water and Sewerage Company.
In 2023, Justice Charo Mrima was named the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Judge of the Year.
