Danson Mwashako Mwakuwona is a Kenyan politician and the Member of Parliament for Wundanyi Constituency in Taita Taveta County.
Early Life and Education
Mwashako’s academic foundation was laid in Taita Taveta, where he attended Kidule Primary School and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1993.
He then proceeded to Dr. Aggrey High School between 1994 and 1997, successfully completing his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
With a keen interest in economics and business, he later enrolled at Kenyatta University in 1999. After four years of study, he graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business Studies.
Career
Professional career
Upon graduation, Mwashako joined the corporate world, building his career in Kenya’s banking sector.
In 2005, he began his professional journey at Equity Bank as a Credit Administrator, a role he held until 2008, before moving to NIC Bank, where he worked as an Asset Finance Officer between 2008 and 2009.
His career path soon took him to CFC Stanbic Bank, where from 2009 to 2011, he served as an Account Analyst.
By 2012, he had returned to Equity Bank, this time in a senior role as a Corporate Manager. His tenure in the banking industry, which lasted until 2017, gave him a strong grounding in financial management, lending, and investment.
Political Career
In 2017, Mwashako made his debut in elective politics when he contested and won the Wundanyi Constituency parliamentary seat on a WDM-K ticket.
He was re-elected in 2022, solidifying his political standing and extending his service into a second consecutive term.
As a legislator, Mwashako has served in key committees, including the Budget and Appropriations Committee, the Powers and Privileges Committee, and the Regional Integration Committee.

In September 2023, he was elected Chairperson of the Coast Parliamentary Group (CPG), a caucus bringing together 42 legislators from Kenya’s six coastal counties.

Beyond Parliament, Mwashako has been active in grassroots development, channeling resources to education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
In January 2025, he commissioned 16 modern classrooms across Mghambonyi and Mbauro comprehensive schools, with investments worth KSh 45 million.
The same month, he introduced the “Boresha Matokeo Award,” through which Mdundonyi Secondary School received KSh 5 million for achieving the most improved KCSE results in Wundanyi.
His track record of tangible development earned him recognition in February 2025, when he was ranked among Kenya’s Top 10 performing MPs, with a 60 percent performance score that credited him for efficient use of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Mwashako is married to Priscilla Lughano, and together they have two children. His wife has been actively supportive of his political journey, often engaging in community welfare projects within Wundanyi.
