David Mwalika Mboni is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament for Kitui Rural Constituency under the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party.
Early Life & Education
David Mwalika Mboni was born on July 1, 1965, in Kitui County, Kenya.
He began his formal education at Kisasi Primary School, attending from 1971 to 1977, and then proceeded to Kisasi Secondary School, where he studied from 1978 to 1982, earning his Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) with Division II.
He then joined Shimo la Tewa High School from 1983 to 1984, where he obtained the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) with three principal passes and one subsidiary pass.
Mboni pursued higher education at the University of Nairobi, enrolling in 1987 and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1990.
He later advanced his academic qualifications by obtaining a Master of Arts in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana between 1999 and 2001.
Career
Professional career
Following his undergraduate studies, Mboni began his professional career in economic planning and public service.
From 1992 to 2012, he served as Chief Economist at the Ministry of Planning, where he played a pivotal role in national economic development and policy formulation.
Between 2006 and 2009, he served as Technical Manager for the World Bank’s STATCAP Project, focusing on building Kenya’s statistical capacity.
In parallel, he held the position of Deputy Chief Economist at the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics from 2007 to 2010, where he contributed to national data collection, economic analysis, and reporting.

He was then promoted to Chief Economist at the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics from 2010 to 2012, where he oversaw economic research, statistical operations, and national data management.
Political Career
David Mwalika Mboni formally entered elective politics in 2017, successfully contesting the Kitui Rural Constituency parliamentary seat under the Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party.
During his first term (2017–2022), he served as Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Finance and Planning, where he played a key role in scrutinizing national budgets, advocating for economic reforms, and promoting accountability in public financial management.
In the 2022 General Election, Mboni was re-elected as Member of Parliament for Kitui Rural Constituency, this time representing the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM).
Since then, he has continued to champion infrastructure development, healthcare improvements, and educational advancement in his constituency, while remaining actively involved in legislative oversight and national policy discussions.
