Career
Professional career
After graduating from Pwani University in 2017, Methu Muhia began his professional journey in public service.
In 2018, he was appointed Personal Secretary to the Speaker of the Nyandarua County Assembly, a role he held until 2022.
In this role, Methu was directly involved in supporting the Speaker’s office by coordinating legislative functions, liaising with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), and facilitating communication between the Assembly and the public.
Political career
His political career began with his first attempt at elective office in the 2017 general election, when he contested the Nyandarua County Senate seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap Party ticket.

Despite running a spirited campaign, he was unsuccessful in his bid, finishing behind the then-incumbent Senator Mwangi Githiomi.
This initial loss, however, did not deter him but instead strengthened his resolve and deepened his connection with the electorate.
Determined to make a comeback, Methu shifted his political allegiance to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2022 general election.
On August 9, 2022, he won the senatorial race decisively with 185,337 votes, unseating Mwangi Githiomi and making history as the youngest senator ever elected in Kenya at the age of 31.
Upon entering the Senate, Methu was elected as Chairperson of the Lands, Environment, and Natural Resources Committee, a powerful and strategic position that placed him at the forefront of critical debates on land reforms, environmental conservation, and natural resource management.
In November 2024, a Politrack survey ranked Methu as the “most transformative senator” in Kenya, with an impressive 85.2% approval rating.
However, in early 2025, Methu faced a political setback when he was stripped of his chairmanship of the Lands Committee due to internal political realignments.
Despite the move, he publicly declared that he had “no regrets” and would continue to serve the people of Nyandarua and Kenya with integrity and commitment.
Methu has been a vocal advocate for transparency and accountability in public service.
In March 2025, he challenged the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) over irregularities in fertilizer distribution, accusing the agency of sidelining agricultural counties such as Nyandarua.
