Joseph Munyoro Kamau, known locally as Munyoro, is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Kigumo Constituency, Muranga County.
Early life and educational background
Joseph Munyoro Kamau was born in Mariira village, Kigumo Constituency in Murang’a County.
He began his formal education in 1982 at Mariira Primary School, completing his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1989.
He proceeded to Kigumo Bendera High School from 1990 to 1993, where he successfully sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
In 1995, Munyoro joined the University of Nairobi, graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics.
During his university years, he also pursued professional accounting training at SPS College, completing CPA Sections 1 and 2 between 1996 and 1997.
In 2006, Munyoro earned a Marketing Certificate from the Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK), enhancing his skills in strategic communication and brand management.

Professional career
Before joining politics, Joseph Munyoro built a strong career in Kenya’s corporate and media sectors, where he earned a reputation as a results-driven professional.
His career began at Nation Media Group in 2000, where he began as a Sales Executive and held the position till 2004.
In 2004, Munyoro briefly left Nation Media for Royal Media Services (RMS), where he worked as Head of Sales until 2008.
At RMS, he was responsible for expanding the company’s advertising base and strengthening its market competitiveness.
His exceptional performance and ability to build strong client relations saw him rise steadily within the organization, culminating in his appointment as NTV Sales Manager between 2008 and 2012.
In 2010, Munyoro founded Mojos Group Limited, a private company where he serves as Director to date.
Political career
Munyoro’s entry into politics began in 2017, when he vied for the Kigumo Constituency parliamentary seat.
Despite mounting a spirited campaign that emphasized service delivery, youth empowerment, and economic revival, he narrowly lost to Ruth Wangari Mwaniki.
After the 2017 elections, Munyoro remained actively involved in Kigumo’s social and economic affairs.
His persistence bore fruit in the 2022 General Election, when he made a comeback under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Munyoro secured victory with 27,213 votes, defeating notable competitors, including former Education Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Zack Kinuthia.

The win marked a turning point in his career, elevating him to the national stage as a legislator and cementing his role as one of the key political voices in Murang’a County.

In these roles, he has been vocal on matters affecting ordinary citizens, ranging from the cost of utilities and youth financing challenges to agricultural reforms.

In 2023, he strongly backed the Coffee Bill, describing it as a lifeline for smallholder farmers in Kigumo and across Kenya.

Munyoro has also spoken against exploitative financial schemes targeting boda boda riders, warning that unregulated credit models risk trapping the youth in cycles of debt.
In 2025, he raised questions in Parliament about the Murang’a South Water and Sanitation Company’s tariff increases, insisting that water must remain affordable for families.
Although his votes in support of the Finance Bills of 2023 and 2024 have attracted criticism from sections of the public opposed to higher taxation, Munyoro maintains that his decisions are driven by long-term economic considerations.
