Julius Melly Kipkirui is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament for Tinderet Constituency.
Early life and education
Melly was born in 1966 in Tinderet, Nandi County, where he spent his early years in a rural farming community.
He began his schooling at Chepkongony Primary School, where he completed his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) in 1979.
He proceeded to Cheplaskei Secondary School in 1980, where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) in 1983.
In 1987, he joined Kabarnet Teachers Training College to pursue a career in education and graduated in 1989 with a P1 Teacher’s Certificate, equipping him to begin work as a professional teacher.
Melly enrolled at Moi University in 2003, earning a Bachelor of Education degree in 2007, and returned in 2009 for postgraduate studies, completing a Master of Education in Leadership and Policy Studies in 2011.

Professional career
Julius Melly began his professional journey with the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) in 1994, working as an Assistant Teacher in Nandi County.
For four years, until 1998, he taught in various schools, gaining a reputation for discipline, hard work, and mentorship.
In 1999, he was promoted to school principal, a position he held until 2012.
Political Career
Melly made his political debut in the 2013 General Election, contesting the Tinderet parliamentary seat under the United Republican Party (URP), one of the parties in the Jubilee Coalition.

He defended his seat successfully in the 2017 General Election under the Jubilee Party, winning a second term in the 12th Parliament.
During this period, he became more prominent in parliamentary leadership, serving on the Departmental Committee on Education, Research, and Technology, and later as its chairperson.
In the 2022 General Election, Melly was re-elected under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the main party in the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
He is now serving his third term in the 13th Parliament, where he continues to chair the Departmental Committee on Education and Research.
He also sits on the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) Committee, where he plays a key role in overseeing the allocation of resources to constituencies.
Through his three terms in Parliament, Melly has become a strong advocate for rural development, championing road projects, electrification, and agricultural support programs to benefit farmers in Nandi.
