After completing his higher education in the late 1980s, Badilisha began his professional journey in 1990 as an agricultural field officer with a local farmer cooperative union in Nyandarua.
In this role, he worked closely with smallholder farmers to improve dairy production and crop farming techniques.
He was instrumental in organizing training workshops that focused on soil conservation, sustainable land use, and post-harvest management.
In 1995, he was recruited by a national-level agricultural NGO, the Kenya National Farmers Federation (KENAFF), where he served as a Regional Agricultural Coordinator for Central Kenya.
During his time at KENAFF, Badilisha also spearheaded several development projects funded by international partners such as the USAID and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), focusing on dairy value chain improvements and cooperative capacity building.
In 2001, Badilisha founded Badilisha Agribusiness Solutions, a private consultancy firm specializing in agricultural planning and farm management services. Through this firm, he provided tailored advisory services to farmer groups, agribusinesses, and cooperative societies across Nyandarua and neighboring counties. The firm also ran training programs for young farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs, empowering them to transition from subsistence to commercial farming.
From 2005 to 2012, Badilisha served on the board of Nyandarua Dairy Farmers Cooperative Union, eventually rising to the position of Vice Chairperson.
Under his leadership, the union introduced modern milk collection and storage systems and facilitated partnerships with processors to ensure farmers received competitive prices for their produce.
In 2013, his expertise led to his appointment to the Kenya Dairy Board’s Advisory Committee, where he contributed to national policy discussions on dairy sector reforms, market regulation, and quality control measures.
In 2016, Badilisha collaborated with the University of Nairobi to develop a framework for creating Nyandarua University College, which aimed to provide local youth with access to advanced education opportunities without needing to relocate to other regions.
