Monicah Muthoni Marubu is a Kenyan politician and the current County Woman Representative for Lamu County.
Early life and education
Monicah Muthoni was born and raised in Hindi, a rural ward in Lamu West, Lamu County.
She began her secondary education at Lamu Girls High School, attending from 2004 to 2007, where she completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Following this, she pursued higher education at the United States International University–Africa (USIU-A) in Nairobi between 2009 and 2013, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations (Diplomacy & Foreign Affairs).
Raised in modest circumstances, Marubu relied on the support of well-wishers throughout her academic journey, from primary school through to the university level.

Professional career
After completing her studies at the United States International University–Africa in 2013, she became involved in grassroots initiatives that focused on increasing access to education and empowering young women in Lamu County.
She worked closely with local organizations and civil society groups to address challenges such as early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and drug abuse, which were prevalent in coastal communities.
Political career
Monicah Muthoni entered the political arena during the 2022 general election, contesting the Lamu County Woman Representative seat.

Running on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, she stood out as the youngest candidate in the race.
Despite her relatively limited political experience, her grassroots activism, youthful energy, and focus on issues affecting women and youth resonated strongly with voters.
She went on to win the election, defeating seasoned rivals and making history as one of the youngest women to be elected to Parliament from the coastal region.
In the 13th Parliament, Monicah Muthoni has continued her advocacy on matters of education, youth empowerment, and women’s rights.
She is a member of the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning as well as the Public Accounts Committee, where she contributes to oversight of government spending and financial accountability.
