Biography
Twalib Mbarak formally took office at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) after a swearing-in ceremony held at the Supreme Court of Kenya, on 14th January 2019.
Twalib is the Commission’s second Secretary/Chief Executive Officer since EACC was established to replace the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission in 2012.
He succeeded Mr. Halakhe Waqo whose Six-year tenure expired on 10th January 2019. The event was presided over by the Chief Justice, Hon. David Maraga.
Twalib Mbarak Education
Twalib has trained in intelligence in Kenya, Germany, South Africa, the United States, and Britain.
He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi, where he studied from 2004 to 2009, and holds a Master of Arts degree in Armed Conflict and Peace Studies from the same institution.
Additionally, Abdallah is a certified security management professional having trained at the International Security Management Institute of the United Kingdom.
Career
The 54-year-old joined Kamuzu Military College in Malawi, as an army officer cadet in 1984.
Mbarak served as a platoon commander of Kenya Rifles from 1985-88 and security office (military protective security) from 1987-91.
He served this role prior to taking up a one-year job on a UN military observer mission for Western Sahara referendum.
However, between 1993 and 1996, Twalib worked as a personal assistant to the director of military intelligence, before transitioning to the Horn of Africa Military Intelligence Corps.
Subsequently, Mbarak joined the National Security Intelligence Service (NIS) in 1990 as the head of the Research and Analysis External Division.
During his time at NIS, he also held roles as the head of Protective Security, Security Analysis and Production Division.
Similarly, he worked as Principal Officer, and head of the NIS Academy’s Research and Development Department.
Additionally, the EACC boss is recognized for training and mentoring some of the country’s leading spies.
However, he left NIS in 2006 to join the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, the precursor to EACC, as a Principal Officer in the Undercover Investigations Unit, where he served until 2010.
