Wanjiku Thiga is a Young Kenyan political leader and youth governance specialist with extensive experience in political organising, civic accountability, and gender-responsive leadership. She is committed to advancing democratic governance, inclusive political participation, and institutional reform in Kenya.
Wanjiku Thiga’s Rise
She currently serves as the National Youth Caucus Chair of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), where she provides strategic leadership in youth political mobilisation, policy advocacy, and political education.
In this role, she works to strengthen youth participation in democratic processes and promote accountable, citizen-centred governance.
Wanjiku contested the Member of the County Assembly seat for Theta Ward in 2022 and was subsequently shortlisted for the position of Chief Officer for Youth Affairs and Sports in Kiambu County.

These experiences provided her with practical exposure to electoral politics and sub-national governance, reinforcing her commitment to integrity, public accountability, and results-oriented public service.
Leadership and advocacy
She is the Founder of Gears for Change Initiative, a youth-led organisation in Juja focused on civic education, leadership development, and social accountability.
She also serves as the Convener of the Young Women in Politics Network and is the Former Convener of the Kiambu Social Accountability Network, platforms through which she has advanced citizen engagement, women’s political leadership, and transparency in public service delivery.
Earlier in her career, Wanjiku Thiga served for five years as Treasurer of Kilimani Ward, Dagoretti North Constituency, Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation, while still on campus, contributing to the strengthening of grassroots women’s leadership, financial governance, and community-based political organising.

Wanjiku has participated in advanced political training and leadership fellowships in Germany, Denmark, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, gaining comparative exposure to democratic systems, social movements, and governance reform initiatives. These experiences have strengthened her capacity in movement-building, institutional leadership, and public communication.
Education
Wanjiku Thiga holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Communication from the University of Nairobi, a Certificate in Women and Leadership from the European Business University of Luxembourg and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Communication for Development at Daystar University.
Wanjiku is recognised for her principled leadership, commitment to constitutionalism, and advocacy for youth and women’s participation in public life. She continues to contribute to national discourse on democratic governance, civil liberties, and inclusive leadership through policy engagement, media commentary, and civic education initiatives.
