The story of Kennedy Rioba, known on social media platforms as Babushka Kenya is one of a man determined to defy all odds to achieve goals.
Despite being physically challenged, the young man born and bred in Migori County is now a TikTok star, earning a living from his talent.
Besides his TikTok and Instagram activities, Babushka is a law student at Kisii University and an influencer.
However, it is his videos on TikTok and other social media platforms that thrust him to sudden fame.
His social media accounts, mainly dominated by dancing videos, have grown immensely- a manifestation of the love he receives from the Kenyan audience.
So far, his Instagram account has surpassed the 240,000 mark while his Tik Tok has over 880,000 followers.
From pop styles to trending choreographed dance moves in Kenya, Babushka has demonstrated that disability is not inability.
His content on social media is largely dominated by dance videos, dance challenges and surprise videos on the streets.
Interestingly, Babushka can play football too. You will most likely notice his love for football when skimming through his content.
In some of his recent videos, Babushka has shared clips of himself playing football with friends. But just how does he manage to do it all?
In an interview with The Kenya Times, Kennedy narrated his story from growing up in Kuria in Migori County to becoming a social media star.
How Babushka started his TikTok journey
He explained that he started dancing way back during his childhood days. However, he says, it was not always easy to step forward and dance in public.
Participating in activities including choir and music helped him muster confidence that later came to propel him to fame.

In the interview, Kennedy says the secret behind his recent achievements has been his self-acceptance and confidence.
“For me it’s about accepting yourself the way you are and being confident,” he said.
“I started dancing from a very young age and took part in co-curricular activities including singing in the choir.”
He started posting content on social media after joining Kisii University where he is pursuing a law course.
So far, Babushka has won love from the social media community both in Kenya and abroad.
Within just two years, Babushka notes that his presence on social media has transformed his life both socially and economically.
His fame and influence on social media have seen him land lucrative deals with several brands in the country including one with a popular local bank.
In addition, Babushka earns money from his surprise gigs where clients intending to show affection to their loved ones pay him to present gifts and dance. Further, he has lately made appearances in entertainment joints for live performances.

In his media engagements, he has affirmed his appreciation for the love and support he gets from fans across all platforms.
Proud mother
When asked about his mother’s perception of his social media activities, he noted that her mother feels proud of his progress.
Further, Babushka said that his mother feels respected in society, something that inspires him to keep going.
“She is so proud of what I am doing and has been supportive,” he said.
As regards his vision going forward, Babushka revealed that he has political ambitions.
In the interview, the TikTok sensation divulged that he has always held the dream of occupying a leadership position.
