Renowned Nairobi lawyer Cliff Ombeta has cautioned Mugithi singer DJ Fatxo against giving media interviews related to the death of Jeff Mwathi, in which Fatxo is a person of interest.
In a tweet, Ombeta warned that Fatxo risks contradicting himself and giving the police grounds to investigate him further if he continues to speak to the media. Ombeta emphasized that anything Fatxo says at this time is dangerous and could be used against him in court. He advised Fatxo to allow his lawyers to speak on his behalf instead.
Dj Faxto.
Stop blundering. You are supposed to be quiet at this moment. Nil by mouth.
Anything you say now is dangerous to you or your defence.Don't give cops ground to contradict or investigate.
Let you lawyer speak. You can always deny what he says. "MISQUOTED" always helps https://t.co/Wrltkxoj4H— COmbeta (@OmbetaC) March 12, 2023
Lawrence Njuguna Wagura, known professionally as DJ Fatxo, is represented by Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru. They held a press conference on Saturday after Fatxo’s first media interview drew criticism. During the interview, Fatxo briefly discussed his relationship with Jeff Mwathi, whom he had known for two years and reported missing to the police. However, some of his statements raised eyebrows and prompted questions.

Ombeta’s advice follows concerns about Fatxo’s initial media interview, in which he discussed his friendship with Mwathi and his efforts to locate him. Fatxo’s statements have led to speculation about the circumstances surrounding Mwathi’s death, which occurred when he reportedly fell from the 10th floor of the Redwood Apartments building where DJ Fatxo lives.
According to reports, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ homicide department visited DJ Fatxo’s apartment on Friday as part of their investigation. Fatxo has stated that he is willing to cooperate with the authorities and has asked his fans and Kenyans to pray for him during this grim time.
