Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has issued a water supply interruption notice affecting at least ten estates within the county.
In a statement dated May 1, the Company informed residents that floods due to the heavy downpour washed away parts of the pipeline supplying water to estates around Outer Ring Road
“Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd (NCWSC) would like to inform its esteemed customers that the water supply pipeline along Outer Ring Road has been washed away earlier today Wednesday 01 May 2024 at the Ngong river crossing caused by the flooding taking place in the city,” the statement read in part.
The following estates served through this pipeline along Outer Ring Road will be affected: Fedha Estate, The whole of Tassia, Nyayo Embakasi Estate, Embakasi village, Avenue Park 1 and 2 estates, Pipeline and Plot 10 estates, Embakasi Jua Kali and the surrounding areas.
Nairobi Water to Use Alternative Pipeline
Meanwhile, Nairobi Water has mobilized engineers to the site and temporary repairs are ongoing to allow for provision of water with low pressures from the Mombasa Road pipeline to the affected estates.
Besides, the Company will reinstate the Ngong River pipeline river crossing at Kware once the rain subsides.
“We urge the affected customers to use the available water they will be getting sparingly. Any inconveniences are highly regretted,” it added.

Government Flood Update
Government Spokesperson Dr Isaac Mwaura revealed that the national flood-related death toll stood at 179 deaths (164 adults and 15 children) as of May 1, 2024.
Additionally, 20 more people have been reported as missing, putting the national tally of those reported as missing at 90.
Another 125 Kenyans have been injured and are receiving treatment in health facilities across the country.
Mwaura said the month of April marked the peak of the ongoing March- April-May (MAM) long rains, except for the coastal region where the rains are expected to peak in May.
He also explained that the ongoing rainfall will continue to cause flooding and disruption of several social and economic activities.

Mwaura called upon all citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to the weather and flood alerts as issued regularly by government agencies.
“Before the end of today, members of the public residing within the risky areas are required to relocate within 48 hours. These include the areas near dams and other water reservoirs in public or private land, areas prone to mudslides and landslides and riparian lands across the country.,” Mwaura said.
He said the government had finalized the arrangements to provide alternative accommodation to people who will be displaced.
The National Multi-Agency Emergency Response committee will continue to coordinate emergency response efforts from the National Disaster Operations Centre, (NDOC) based at Nyayo House.
The government has also set up a Relief Operations Centre at the National Cereals Produce Board (NCPB).
