The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development issued a vacation notice to 299 families living in government houses in Shauri Moyo estate in Nairobi County.
The families are required to surrender their allocation letters to the Ministry of Lands to pave way for President Ruto’s affordable housing project.
“You are hereby notified to submit your particulars as communicated earlier including pay slips national IDs and house allocation letter,” the notice reads in part.
The project will see 4,556 units valued at Ksh18.3 billion constructed over the next three years.
Moreover, Lands Cabinet Secretary Zachary Njeru signed the deal with Hajar Services Limited for the construction of the project on Thursday, August 10.
“We are sure that they’re going to make sure the project is completed in time and done properly as it should be,” said CS Njeru during the signing.

According to the document signed by Hajar Limited, the contractor is also responsible for resettling the families.
However, residents of Shauri Moyo sought clarity on dates they were expected out and where they would be resettled.
“We expected construction of the houses to be complete in five months so that we are relocated to the new ones. However, the other ones are also in the onset stages of construction”, said Geoffrey Wafula, a resident.

When complete, the 15.7-acre piece of land is expected to have 348 studio units worth Ksh1.1 million, 699 one-bedroom units each worth Ksh. 1.65 million and 1,740 two-bedroom units to be sold at Ksh.2.2 million each.
Likewise, the land will house 1,044 three-bedroom units worth Ksh.3.3 million each, and 728 commercial units whose price per unit is yet to be revealed.
Furthermore, the project is expected to include a social hall, upgrading of the nearby school with an additional 16 classrooms, and a commercial center.

Other social infrastructure to be constructed are a playground, parking spaces to accommodate 1,672 vehicles and a greenery that will see the planting of 200 trees.
Nonetheless, CS Njeru noted that the government plans to build 200 affordable units in every constituency in the country under the housing project.
He also noted that his ministry will be keen to oversight the projects to ensure completion on good time.
