As supporters and opponents of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continue to differ at public forums over an impeachment motion against him, a private security firm has raised concerns about four security threats that come with the process.
Securex security Company in its monthly report stated that the impeachment motion against DP Rigathi Gachagua has generated political tensions in the country that could lead to security implications.
“Tensions flared across Kiambu, Nyeri, Nakuru, and Nairobi as public participation for the Deputy President’s impeachment got underway,” read pasrt of trhe report.
“The recent impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, tabled in Parliament on October 1, 2024, has created political tensions that may have security implications.”
Chaos Witnessed in the Country
On Friday, October 4, police clashed with supporters of DP Rigathi Gachagua in Nyeri County as they chanted that there would be no president if his deputy were impeached as the two were elected on a joint ticket.
While protesting, the angry locals barricaded the road that leads to Nyeri town, paralysing transport and business services within the area
Similarly, at the Bomas of Kenya, chaos was witnessed where activist Morara Kebaso was injured in the scuffle.
Videos circulating online showed chairs being hurled at him amid loud jeers, and as tensions escalated, he had no choice but to flee for safety.
“Kufa makanga, kufa dereva! (If you dismiss the bus conductor, you should also dismiss the driver!),” is some of the sheng participants chanted in various parts of Kenya which refers to the shared fate of punishment for those involved in a similar issue.
