The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on Thursday, November 30 published changes in average retail prices of selected commodities in the last one month.
In the report, the prices of seven selected items decreased while those of the other selected items increased.
The price of 1kg of Kale, Sukuma Wiki decreased by 2.4% while that of Cabbages (1kg) fell by 3.6%.
“Inflations rates for Novembers was 0.2%,” said KNBS.
Also, the prices of Loose Maize Grain (1kg) and Sifted Maize Flour (2 Kgs) reduced by 3.3% and 6.5% respectively.
Potatoes (1kg) recorded the highest percentage decrease with 7.1%.
Non-Food Items Whose Prices Decreased-KNBS
Among the non-food items whose prices decreased include Kerosene/Parrafin (1 Litre) which decreased by 1%.
Also, the prices of electricity decreased, 200 Kilowatts by 1% and 50 Kilowatts by 1.2%.
Food Items Whose Prices Increased
The price of Tomatoes (1kg) increased by 17.7% followed by Oranges (1kg) which shot by 3.8%.
Further, the prices of White Wheat Flour (2 Kgs) decreased by 3.3% whereas that of Carrots (1kg) went up by 2.7%.
Additionally, the prices of 1 kg Beef (with bones) increased by 1.9% while that of Onions (1kg) also increased by 1.1%.
Besides, three non-food items recorded an increase in prices.
This includes Cement (50 Kgs) and Cooking Gas/LPG (13 Kgs) which increased by 1.1%, and Diesel (1 Litre) which went up by 1%.

Prices in Last One Year-KNBS
Also, KNBS posted the average retail prices of selected commodities between November 2022 and November 2023.
Within this period, the price of 1kg of Sukuma Wiki decreased by 2.0% while that of White Wheat Flour (2 kgs) decreased by 2.6%.
Furthermore, the price of Sifted Maize Flour (2kgs) fell by 7.4%, Loose Maize Grain (1kg) decreased by 6.2% and Cabbages (1kg) reduced by 4.1%.
“Overall annual inflation rate for Kenya as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 6.8% for November 2023,” said KNBS.

On the other hand, the prices of potatoes (1kg) increased by 6.8%, Carrots (1kg) shot by 27.2% while Onions went up by 53.8%.
Tomatoes (1kg) increased by 40.4%, Oranges (1kg) increased by 13.2% and beef- with bones went up by 11.4%.
Furthermore, electricity 50 kilowatts and 200 kilowatts increased by 45.9% and 38.8% respectively.
In addition, the cost of a litre of fuel products increased as follows; petrol 22.4%, diesel 25.3% and kerosene 38.8%.
Finally, the prices of 13kgs of cooking gas/LPG and Cement (50 Kgs) also increased by 0.9% and 1.9% respectively.
