The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on Tuesday, October 31 published changes in average retail prices of selected commodities in the last one month.
In the report, the prices of four selected items decreased while those of the other selected items increased.
The price of 1kg of Kale, Sukuma Wiki decreased by 2.4% while that of White Wheat Flour (2 kgs) fell by 0.8%.
“The year-on-year inflation for Kenya for October 2023 is 6.9%,” said KNBS.
Moreover, the prices of Fortified Maize Flour (2kgs) and Sifted Maize Flour (2kgs) decreased by 3.2% and 4.1% respectively.
Food Items Whose Prices Increased
Among the food items whose prices increased include 1kg potatoes which increased by 9.6% and tomatoes (1Kg) by 5.4%.
Further, the price of other food items increased as follows; oranges (1kg) by 2.8%, carrots (1kg) by 2.8% and beef-with bones (1kg) by 2.5%.
Non-Food Items
Additionally, the price of Cooking Gas/LPG (13kgs) increased by 7.3% while the monthly house rent for a single room increased by 0.9%.
Moreover, the price of 300 kilowatts of electricity increased by 5.0% while 50 kilowatts went up by 3.3%.
In addition, the price of 1 litre of petrol went up by 2.7%, diesel by 2.2% and kerosene by/paraffin by 1.2%.

Prices in Last One Year
Also, KNBS posted the average retail prices of selected commodities between October 2022 and October 2023.
Within this period, the price of 1kg of Sukuma Wiki decreased by 3.3% while that of White Wheat Flour (2 kgs) decreased by 2.4%.
Also, the price of Sifted Maize Flour (2kgs) fell by 2.9%, Wheat Flour (2kgs) decreased by 5.7% and that of Cooking Gas/LPG (13kgs) decreased by 2.7%.

On the other hand, the prices of potatoes (1kg) increased by 22.9% while that of Carrots (1kg) shot by 19.0%.
Tomatoes (1kg) increased by 16.7%, Oranges (1kg) increased by 11.3% and beef- with bones went up by 9.0%.
Furthermore, electricity 50 kilowatts and 200 kilowatts increased by 44.1% and 30.3% respectively.
In addition, the cost of a litre of fuel products increased as follows; petrol 21.7%, diesel 25.8% and kerosene 39.2%.
The price of 13kgs of cooking gas/LPG also increased by 2.7%.
