Airtel has announced service delays in the allocation of airtime and data bundles purchased through M-PESA, saying it is working with M-Pesa team to restore normal service.
In a customer notice issued on 24th June 2026, the telecommunications company said the delays are temporary and assured subscribers that efforts are underway to restore normal service. The company also advised customers to use Airtel Money as an alternative channel for purchasing airtime and data bundles.
“Please note that there are intermittent delays in airtime & bundle allocation when purchasing through M-PESA. We are following up with M-PESA team to resolve the issue at the earliest,” read the statement
Airtel Customers Experience Delays in Airtime and Bundle Allocation
According to the notice, some customers purchasing airtime and bundles through M-Pesa have been experiencing delays before the purchased services are credited to their accounts.

To minimize disruptions to customers, Airtel directed subscribers to use Airtel Money to purchase airtime and bundles instead of relying on M-PESA during the period of the delays.
The company said customers can access the service by dialing *334# on their Airtel lines or by using the My Airtel App.
Airtel assured customers that it is actively engaging the M-Pesa team to address the disruption and restore seamless transactions.
“In the meantime, AIRTEL MONEY option is available. Simply dial *334# on your Airtel line or use My Airtel App, select the airtime or bundle option, select your preferred bundle or airtime amount then enter your PIN,” read the advisory.
Safaricom and Airtel Receive Licensing as Intermediary Service Platform Providers
The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) granted Safaricom Plc and Airtel Money Kenya Limited licenses to operate as Intermediary Service Platform Providers (ISPPs).

The licensing of both Safaricom Plc and Airtel Money Kenya Limited to operate as intermediary service platform providers is expected to enhance healthy competition in Kenya’s digital investment space. Investors now have multiple platforms to choose from, encouraging innovation and better service offerings.
Users may benefit from lower transaction costs, more flexible investment options, and improved digital tools for monitoring portfolios.
The move also pressures other financial institutions in the country to enhance their services, ultimately raising the standard of Kenya’s capital markets ecosystem.
With the new licenses, Safaricom and Airtel Money can now offer regulated capital markets products directly through their digital platforms.
