Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway will experience a temporary disruption this weekend due to a planned 24-hour closure of sections of the road to allow ongoing infrastructure works.
In a statement on June 13, Moja Expressway Company announced that parts of the expressway will be closed from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The closure will facilitate the installation of fabricated beams for the Airtel footbridge across the expressway carriageway.
“Please note that some sections of the Nairobi Expressway will be temporarily closed for 24 hours from 10 PM on Saturday, June 13th 2026 to 10 PM on Sunday, June 14th 2026, to allow the installation of the fabricated footbridge beams of the Airtel footbridge across the Expressway carriageway,” stated the company.
Alternative Routes for Nairobi Expressway Motorists During Closure
The company has since issued alternative routes to help motorists navigate the temporary closure.

Drivers traveling from Mlolongo and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) toward Nairobi’s Central Business District are advised to exit at Eastern Bypass Exit A and rejoin the route through Southern Bypass Entrance A.
Motorists heading from the CBD toward Mlolongo and southern Nairobi should use Southern Bypass Exit B, then reconnect to the expressway via Eastern Bypass Entrance B.
The company said the diversions will use existing links between the route, the Eastern Bypass, and the Southern Bypass, with traffic marshals and signage in place to guide motorists.
Drivers can also use Mombasa Road (A8/A109) as an alternative, though heavier traffic is expected. Nearby interchanges such as Airtel Complex and Ole Sereni may also help motorists bypass the affected section.
The company urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, and apologized for the disruption.
“Sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused,” the company said.
