An Ambulance ferrying accident survivor in Uasin Gishu collided head on with a trailer on Tuesday, December 5, evening.
Confirming the incident, Ainabkoi police boss Allois Muthoka detailed that the ambulance was on its way to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where the survivor had been referred.
Further, he noted that the injured individual had earlier been taken to Burnt Forest Hospital for treatment but was referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Also, he explained that the ambulance veered off the road before rolling several times at Kerita area.
“The ambulance hit the back of a trailer that was heading to Eldoret. It almost collided with an oncoming vehicle,” the police boss stated.
Earlier Accident Before Ambulance Crash
This incident followed an earlier accident where three people were injured after an Eldoret-bound trailer collided head on with a tractor at Bayete area.
Notably, the tractor, which was ferrying firewood, was headed in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.
In the first accident, three people were injured and were rushed to Burnt Forest Hospital for treatment.
Police officers launched a manhunt for the driver of the trailer who had fled the scene.
In total, both accidents left six people injured and had all been hospitalized for treatment.

NTSA Latest Data on Road Accidents
According to the latest data by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) 3,609 people died in road accidents between January and October 2023.
Additionally, the authority noted that it recorded a drop in the number of fatalities in the same period last year, which stood at 3,936 reflecting an 8.31 per cent drop.
In their October Road Safety status report, the NTSA indicated that January recorded 379 fatalities, February had 340, March (389), April (357) and May had 340.
Also, June recorded 439 fatalities, July 325, August -27, September-338 and October 330 cases.

On the other hand, in 2022, at least 4,690 people lost their lives on Kenyan roads.
NTSA recorded 21,757 road accident casualties in 2022, representing a 5.5 per cent increase from what was reported in 2021.
Pedestrians accounted for the highest fatalities at 1,682 while motorcyclists were 1,254. Drivers were 426, passengers (822), pillion passengers (445) and pedal cyclists (61).
