The body of a KCA University student Sammy Cullin Maina, who went missing during anti-tax protests has been found.
According to police reports, Maina’s body was found on July 9, near Kasarani car wash foot bridge nearly a month after his disappearance after visiting his friend in Ngara.
Traffic police spokesperson Mary Omari confirmed the incident to the media stating that it was a hit and run.
“So, this accident occurred on 9th of June that is last month, along Thika Superhighway, near carwash footbridge area. It was about ten minutes past ten at night, it was a hit and run,” Mary said.
Additionally, while speaking to the press, Sammy’s in-law Edi Omodius recounted how they got wind of information that led them to Industrial Area Police Station.
However, their search hit a dead end as they were told to go back on a different day citing that the records office had been closed.
“We got information some information, there’s someone who told us that they’ve been together with him at Industrial area remand, so we went to check at the industrial area remand, but they told us that the records office had been closed. So, we had to come back on Sunday,” Edi said.
“At the same time, the group of friends who had been searching for him had come here at City Mortuary and they were told that they couldn’t be let in because of the issues happening at Kware,” he added.

KCA Student Disappearance
Sammy Cullin Maina went missing since June 25th. Police said he was knocked down by a vehicle, but the family rejected police account, demanding answers.
His uncle, James Matu expressed frustration on their search for him.
“We could not trace our kin, we tried tracing him, reaching out for him on his phone, he could not respond. We also tried to reach out to him through his friends, they were also not aware of his whereabout,” James said.
The KCA University student’s friend revealed the state in which the body was found.
“We were able to see the full body and found similarities and we confirmed that it was Sammy Cullin. He had broken legs, he didn’t have a shirt, it was a bad state,” he said.
At the same time, he narrated where Sammy had been while raising concerns on where he ended up lifeless.
“There are a lot of issues that don’t make sense to us. We want the police officers to tell us the true story. What really happened because it doesn’t make sense for Cullin to leave Ngara heading to Kahawa West and then stop over at Kasarani as a pedestrian,” he noted.
Likewise, he stated that police at Kasarani were giving them a hard time therefore making it impossible to access the report of the accident.
“We are at the police station at Kasarani, and the police officers were not cooperative until now they have refused to give us the report.

KCA statement on Sammy Cullin
In a statement on July 15, the school administration expressed its regret on the death of Sammy.
“It is with profound sorrow that we mourn the tragic passing of Sammy Cullen Maina, a student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Film Technology & Performing Arts at KCA University.
Moreover, KCA officials revealed that they were working closely with the family to uncover the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise.
“The University management is deeply saddened by this loss and is working closely with his family to obtain the relevant information including the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise,” KCA said.
Likewise, the university emphasized its commitment to the well-being and safety of all students as well as creating supportive environment for them.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
KCA University remains committed to the well-being and safety of all students. We are dedicated to creating a supportive environment where students can thrive both academically, socially and personally. In light of this tragic event, we will continue to strengthen our efforts to ensure the welfare of our student community is safeguarded,” KCA concluded.
Denzel Omondi
Sammy Cullin’s death came days after the body of Denzel Omondi, a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was discovered dumped in a quarry in Kiambu County.
His lifeless body was discovered at the Mashimoni quarry in Juja on July 6, 2024.
Omondi was among protesters who marched to Parliament during the anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations.
Following his demise, students at JKUAT staged demonstrations, paralyzing transport along the busy Thika Superhighway.
