Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School is among the leading national girls’ secondary schools in Kenya.
The school, which is one of the few provincial schools known outside Central Kenya, was founded in 1960 by the late Bishop Caesar Gatimu.
Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls used to be run by the Comboni Mission in Karatina, Nyeri. It was initially named Ngandu Girls High School, after the place it currently sits.
It was not until later that the school changed its name to Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls to honour its founder.
Sister Alexandrina was the first Principal, then Sister Nazarene Zonta, who ran the school with her deputy until 1983.
Lay principals (or headmistresses) appointed by the Teachers Service Commission went on to head the school since then.
The first native principal was Helen Wathuti Waweru, who served as principal from 1983-2006.
The institution has, over the years, been a perennial top performer in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls was classified under Cluster Four (IV), with the annual tuition fee capped at approximately Ksh75,798—the same fee ceiling applied to other national school clusters.
