Ride-hailing platform Bolt Kenya on Wednesday, June 11, introduced a new ride category, Bolt Comfort.
In a press release, Bolt announced the introduction of the category designed to meet the growing appetite for premium, professional, and reliable rides among Nairobi’s fast-growing middle class.
The company said it expects the Comfort service to contribute up to 10% of total rides by the end of 2025, banking on a steady uptake from riders seeking a refined yet affordable travel option.
The new category features spacious, newer-model vehicles (2016 and above), mandatory air-conditioning, and is exclusively driven by top-rated drivers with a rating of 4.8 and above.
Bolt introduces comfort features
Bolt Comfort will target business professionals, corporate clients, and airport commuters, with an aim to bridge the gap between affordability and luxury.
“Our research shows a strong appetite among corporate and middle-income passengers for ride options that offer comfort, reliability, and professionalism,” said Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt’s General Manager for Kenya and Tanzania.
“Bolt Comfort is designed to meet exactly that demand,” he added.
Despite its premium nature, Bolt Comfort remains 13% more affordable than comparable services in the market, a strategic positioning the company hopes will attract price-sensitive riders looking for extra quality.
Bolt comfort access areas
Initially rolled out in Nairobi’s high-demand zones, including CBD, Westlands, Kilimani, and JKIA, Bolt plans to expand the category across the capital and into Kiambu County by December 2025, with a fleet goal of over 1,000 Comfort vehicles.
The African Development Bank estimates that Kenya’s middle class now comprises nearly 45% of the population, a demographic shift reflected in rising demand for better transport experiences.

The platform is betting on this trend to grow its market share while enhancing customer satisfaction.
Unlike Bolt’s standard rides, which do not guarantee amenities like air conditioning, the Comfort option will offer the convenience of adjustable air conditions.
Vehicles are also subject to biannual inspections in partnership with Auto Express, ensuring consistency and high service standards.
How drivers will benefit from Bolt’s move
Drivers, on the other hand, benefit from higher fares and better earning potential, but only those meeting strict performance benchmarks qualify.

“We’re building a platform where both a university student and a company executive can find the right transport option to fit their needs and budget,” said Kanyankole.
“That’s how we grow with the market by being inclusive, responsive, and forward-thinking,” he further explained.
The new category is now live on the Bolt app.
