Belgium’s flag carrier Brussels Airlines has resumed direct flights to Nairobi, Kenya after nine years.
In a statement, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced that the Airline relaunched flights to Kenya’s capital on June 3 marking another era of connectivity between the two countries.

“In a momentous return after nearly a decade, Brussels Airline has resumed its direct flights to Nairobi, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s aviation sector,” the statement read in part.
The inaugural flight landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday night, heralding a new era of connectivity between Europe and Eastern Africa.

Among the dignitaries who received the flight included Transport PS Mohamed Daghar, Immigration Department PS Julius Bitok, Kenyan Ambassador to Belgium Peter Maddens and KAA Board Chair Caleb Kositany.
Kositany shared the collective excitement, noting, “The return of Brussels Airline is a testament to Nairobi’s growing significance as a regional hub. We are not only celebrating this flight but also looking ahead to future growth.”

In his remarks, Kositany highlighted ambitious plans for the expansion and upgrades of JKIA to enhance the airport’s capacity to handle more passengers & flights, positioning Nairobi as a premier aviation hub in Africa.
“Expanding JKIA is crucial for accommodating the increasing number of international flights and for bolstering our economy through improved connectivity,” Kositany emphasized.
Brussels Airlines stopped flying to Nairobi on October 24, 2015.
Instead, the airline’s country manager, Pierre Declerck said the flights will be replaced by direct Lufthansa flights to and from Frankfurt.

Brussels Airlines Destinations in Africa
Brussels Airlines’ resumption of flights to the Jomo Kenyatta Internation Airport – JKIA, seeks to expand its African network to 24 destinations.
In sub-Saharan Africa, cities like Abidjan, Dakar, Douala, Entebbe, Kigali, Kinshasa, and Yaoundé have daily flights, more frequent than Nairobi.
Meanwhile, Accra and Lomé have six weekly flights, the same as Nairobi.
For Nairobi, Brussels Airlines offers two types of services: four weekly non-stop flights and two weekly one-stop flights that also serve Kigali. This means Kigali gets daily flights from Brussels Airlines.

Brussels will fly directly to Nairobi on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday while on Wednesday and Sunday, there will be flights via Kigali.
On the other hand, there will be non-stop flights from Nairobi to Brussels on Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
There will be flights via Kigali on Wednesday and Sunday.
