The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) will not clear any aspirant who had been impeached to contest in the August Polls.
IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati says that persons who have faced impeachment before are not eligible to stand for elections based on chapter six of the constitution
Chebukati says impeached leaders cannot pass the integrity test and hence they will not be cleared.
The announcement by IEBC complicates matters for former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko who is seeking clearance to run for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat
Chebukati however says that the commission will clear candidates who are still battling court cases and who haven’t been found guilty.
