Amid rising tensions and the deployment of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) into urban areas in the country, Bishop Abraham Gitu has made a heartfelt plea for peace and restraint.
Speaking on 26th June 2024, Bishop Abraham’s message emphasized a non-violent approach and the importance of dialogue over military intervention.
“As for armies to come into town, we say no, peacefully. It has not reached the place of the armies,” Bishop Gitu stated in a recent address.
“When we need troops, where will we provide them? Our President, peacefully, prayerfully, we pray you to shelve the forces in the barracks,” he added.
The bishop’s remarks come at a critical time as the government has deployed the KDF to assit the Kenya police service address escalating unrest in several cities.
Church Message to Youths
Bishop Gitu also addressed the youth directly, urging them to maintain peace and respect for law enforcement officers.
“And you youth don’t beat the police. They are your brothers and sisters. Don’t be thieves, robbers in Jesus’s name,” he implored.

The situation has been tensed in recent weeks, with protests and clashes becoming more frequent. Many community leaders share Bishop Gitu’s concern that introducing military forces could exacerbate rather than alleviate the situation.
As the nation watches closely, the government’s decision on deploying the KDF remains a pivotal issue.
Deployment of KDF Amid Anti-Finance Bill Protest
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah on Wednesday, June 26, tabled a motion to legally ratify the government’s decision to deploy Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers to contain the anti-finance bill protesters.

The National Assembly approved the deployment to support in tackling the security situation following a wave of protests over the Finance Bill 2024.
This comes a day after protesters on June 25th, 2024, stormed Kenya’s parliament in Nairobi, expressing outrage against a controversial finance bill that includes tax hikes.
During the demonstrations, parts of the parliament building were set on fire, and legislators had to flee.
In adittion, several Kenyans protesting were shot dead.
