The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of Ngong Road near Coptic Hospital on Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
According to KURA, this closure will facilitate the installation of a new footbridge aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and accessibility.
Motorists traveling from Prestige Plaza and Daystar Roundabout are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
During the closure, traffic police will be on-site to guide motorists and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
The new footbridge is part of KURA’s ongoing efforts to transform urban mobility and improve infrastructure within the city.
Purpose of Ngong Road Closure
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your cooperation,” the statement read.
By providing a safe crossing point for pedestrians, the footbridge aims to reduce accidents and enhance the overall flow of traffic on this busy road.
KURA urges motorists to exercise caution as they approach the affected area and requests the public’s patience during the installation process.

Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway
On the other hand, Kenya is set to benefit from a $3.6 billion (Ksh470 billion) Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway project through a deal that was signed during President William Ruto’s State Visit to the United States.
American firm Everstrong Capital in a statement on May 23, 2024, confirmed that it will build the 440-kilometre expressway between Mombasa and Nairobi after the government signed a deal with a US firm yesterday.
The project, dubbed the Usahihi Expressway, is set to be undertaken after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) signed a project development agreement (PDA) with Everstrong Capital.
The route will pass through a vast wildlife reserve, creating an essential connection between Nairobi and the port city of Mombasa.
Kenya Airways Clarify System Outage
Kenya Airways (KQ) also issued a statement in response to a system outage that affected some of its core services including the booking and flight status updates during the protest in Nairobi 25th June 2024.

In a statement, KQ confirmed the outage attributing it to internet issues caused by damage to the undersea cable that provides internet.
“We would like to notify our customers that we are experiencing a system outage that has impacted some of our core services, including our booking system, flight status updates, and customer support. This outage is as a result of damage to the undersea cable as communicated by our internet service provider,” KQ said in a statement.
In addition, the airline explained that services were further disrupted as some of its employees were unable to make it to their workstations on time because of road closures due to the anti-Finance Bill Protests.
