City Mortuary on the Spot After Bodies Mlolongo Abductees Allegedly Disappears

Nairobi Funeral Home (City Mortuary) is on the spot for allegedly hiding two bodies of the Mlolongo 4 who went missing in December 2024. Opposition leaders have accused City Mortuary management of colluding with the police to hide the bodies of Steve Mbisi and Kalani Mwema.

Speaking on Saturday, February 1, Kitui Senator Enock Wambua said the records show that a body had been brought to the morgue.

Wambua said the two bodies with the tags 2390 and 2360 were recorded in City mortuary but the staff could not explain where they went to.

“I want to go on record so the country may know that actually there’s a body that was brought here, and it’s on the record. Alongside the body tag 2390 is a body tagged 2360, which even the morgue operators are unable to say where it is. It’s on the record, but nobody knows where the body is,” Wambua said.

Wamalwa & Kalonzo Calls City Mortuary Crime Scene

DAPK leader Eugene Wamalwa said the mortuary has become a crime scene where bodies are dumped.

He stated that individuals behind the murder would be summoned to court and punished.

“And the police hiding all this here, and victims who have been abducted—they too will be summoned to court. They will answer because if this turns out to be not just a place for storing bodies but a crime scene where the police are colluding to hide bodies of people they have killed and dumped here, then those behind it, including the leadership of this county and this country, will be answerable,” he said.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka criticized the police entries, which indicated that one body died as a result of murder and the other by drowning.

He questioned why the authorities expect the country to believe that this is the true story.

“I repeat, nobody can wish away this whole matter of killing by the state. We are calling it as it is—abductions and killings by the state,” Kalonzo stated.

Family Narrates Ordeal at the Mortuary

The families of Steve Mbisi and Kalani Mwema arrived at Nairobi Funeral Home (City Mortuary) on Saturday, February 1, to identify their bodies after being summoned by morgue staff.

However, the families were turned away by morgue staff, who said there was little progress due to the high number of bodies at the mortuary.

“We were told to come today at 10 am to be shown the identified bodies to see if we could find the body. But until now, there is no progress,” Monica Mwende, Kalanu Mwema’s sister said.

Mortuary staff informed Steve Mbisi’s family that they found a third body, brought in on December 18, 2024, 50 minutes later—a body the Mbisi family hoped to see.

However, the family was unable to view the body due to a sudden change made by morgue attendants.

How Steve was Abducted

According to Steve’s wife, her last moments with him took a tragic turn when four men entered the house when he was taking a shower.

“One was a tall, white man who slapped me and told me to lie down and not look at him. I heard the others who were there telling him to hurry up, get out of the bathroom, take the wallet, and leave. I thought they were just regular police officers. The first thing I saw was a man carrying a handgun, so I obeyed and lay down,” she narrated.

This comes after Martin Mwau and Justus Mutumwa, who were among the Mlolongo 4, were found dead on January 30.

Mwau’s body was discovered at the City Mortuary, while Mutumwa was found in Ruai, Nairobi County.
