What Does Closing of File Proceedings Entail
Closing of File Proceedings is a ceremonial event held by the Judiciary, especially in Commonwealth countries like Kenya, to honor a deceased judge or judicial officers.

It is both symbolic and solemn, marking the official closure of the judge’s work or “file” within the judiciary and celebrates their contributions to justice and the rule of law.
Furthermore, the ceremony ensures that the individual’s judicial work is formally recognized and that their professional file is metaphorically “closed” as a mark of respect.
Also, the tribute proceedings are entered into the permanent record of the Court, preserving their contributions to Kenya’s legal history.
However, the Closing of File is more than a ceremony. It is a time for reflection and recommitment by the judiciary and legal professionals and a reminder that legal service is a sacred duty.
During the proceedings, CJ Koome said that the lives and service of Justices Majanja and Ogembo exemplified judicial excellence and were marked by integrity, diligence, humility, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
“It is a moment for collective reflection, to honor those who have served with distinction, and to recommit ourselves to the values that defined their lives: integrity, fidelity to the rule of law, and excellence in the dispensation of justice,” the CJ said.
