The last moments of High Court judge Daniel Ogembo who was announced dead on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, have been revealed.
Judge Ogembo who was working as a Presiding Judge of the Siaya High Court was found dead inside his residential house on Wednesday morning.
The staff at the court in a statement recorded with the police revealed the last moments of the late Justice Ogembo, revealing that he was at work on Tuesday.
According to the staff at the court, the deceased worked until close of business on Tuesday before his official driver dropped him at his house.
The body of the Judge would later be found by his driver who had reported to his residence after failing to reach him on phone.

In the morning, the driver is said to have called his boss to alert him when he arrived at the judge’s compound to pick him up.

However, the calls went unanswered, prompting the driver to go check on Justice Ogembo’s door.
“He found the door locked from inside after numerous calls to his cell phone were not picked,” a police report indicates.
Following the unanswered calls, the driver went back to the Judiciary office in Siaya and reported the incident to other staff, who in turn alerted the police.
The door lock was broken with the help of the police, and the lifeless body of the judge found lying on his bed.

Probe into death launched
While confirming the incident, Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo noted that investigations are on to establish the death, which will include conducting postmortem examinations.
“It is true, the body was found inside his house, can’t say much at this point, let’s give the investigating officers time to carry out their work,” he said.
The body was removed and taken to a funeral home in Kisumu for preservation and autopsy.
Ogembo’s death was announced by Siaya County Governor James Orengo on Wednesday who celebrated him as a man of few words and for being an intent listener who brought clarity in the courtroom.
“I join the entire judiciary in mourning the tragic death of Hon. Justice Daniel Ogembo Ogola who was the presiding Judge at Siaya High Court.
“Justice Ogembo had a marvelous ability to listen intently, reflect quietly and then interject, usually with a brief few words that brought clarity in the courtroom. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Orengo in a statement.
The high-profile late Judge has been stationed in Siaya for the last two years, having taken over from Lady Justice Roseline Aburili.
His death comes following the death of his fellow High Court Judge David Majanja whose body was to be cremated on Wednesday afternoon at the Kariokor Cemetery in Nairobi.
Ogembo’s death announcement came while members of the Judiciary Service Commision were at the funeral service of the late Majanja who passed away on June 11, following a successful surgery.
