ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has revealed plans to pay arrears owed to Posta workers who have protested persistent salary delays.
In a response to People’s Liberation Party (PLP) Leader Martha Karua, William Kabogo said the government was committed to “sorting the mess” of the workers who have had to cope without salaries for several months.
“I’m on it, we can’t have people waiting for their hard-earned pay for months, this administration will sort that mess,” William Kabogo assured.
Kabogo had issued a statement after his tour of Posta offices in Mombasa County where he interacted with officials and workers.
In his statement, Kabogo said that he saw firsthand the challenges and the opportunities that Posta institution holds.
Kabogo said the government was keen to ensure Kenyans are empowered to take advantage of ongoing connectivity through digital skilling so that such strategic assets are utilised to the optimum
This comes against the background of a crisis in the postal institution. Postal employees have had to cope with challenges, mainly due to late payments and have even gone on strike several times over the issue.

They claimed that despite having issued a 21-day notice, no action was taken by the management to resolve the matter.
The Communication Workers Union Branch Secretary, Gilbert Rop, said that the employees had several reasons to go on strike, salary delay being the main.
Speaking to the press on behalf of postal corporation workers, COWU Kericho branch secretary Gilbert Rop expressed frustrations.
“We are deeply concerned by the persistent delay in the disbursement of salaries to our members, which is a clear violation of their basic rights,” he said.
“Timely payment of wages is not only a legal obligation but also a fundamental aspect of the trust and respect that should exist between the employer and their workforce.”

Hon. John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), Chairperson of the Committee on Communication, Information and Innovation, expressed concern over sustained budget cuts to essential state corporations.
“Although the two corporations were identified and approved by the Cabinet as critical agencies needing urgent interventions to achieve commercial viability, the proposed 2025/26 and medium-term estimates contain no such budgetary support,” said John Kiarie.
Additionally, he warned that the continued lack of financial support would worsen the pending bills crisis.
“Lack of financial support shall lead to continued accumulation of pending bills that have so far reached staggering amounts,” he stated.
