The Chairperson of the President’s Economic Council David Ndii warned Members of Parliament in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition hoping to use their close influence in the government to land tenders.
In a statement on Friday, December 1, Ndii said that “they’ had managed to disrupt a trend of MPs seeking tenders in various parastatals and government agencies.
According to the usually vocal economist, some MPs thought Kenya Kwanza’s win in the 2022 elections would guarantee them easy tenders in government.
However, Ndii asserted that such leaders would be in for a shock stating that they were about to “get a character development”.
“We’ve a bewildered lot of tenderpreneur generation MPs who thought Kenya Kwanza win was back to good old sky team days when they’d walk into a ministry, walk out with a project, walk into a parastatal walk out with a tender,” Ndii’s statement read.
“They are about to get much needed character development.”
Deputy Government Spokesperson Gabriel Muthuma also commented on the statement, corroborating Ndii’s words with a warning.
In his statement, Muthuma hinted at tighter regulations to prevent such tenders in government.
“Wamejua hawajui. Soon they will be walking into a ministry and directly into the EACC,” Muthuma stated.
This was yet another indication of possible infighting in the Kenya Kwanza government especially between David Ndii- head of President William Ruto‘s economic think tank– and MPs.
