The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed allegations by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua about the conduct of its officers, calling the claims baseless and unsubstantiated.
In a statement issued on August 11, the DCI said those making the allegations should provide evidence instead of making unverified claims that could undermine public confidence in the police.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has taken note of a litany of baseless and unsubstantiated allegations by the former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, touching on the DCI. These allegations are ridiculous, ill-intended and wholly without foundation. Those advancing them should produce credible evidence rather than peddle unverified claims calculated to undermine public confidence in law enforcement,” stated the DCI.
The agency said it does not sanction, facilitate, conceal or participate in criminal activities, regardless of the identity or status of individuals involved.
The DCI maintained that it operates as a professional investigative institution mandated by law to investigate serious and complex crimes, collect evidence and present cases to the relevant prosecutorial and judicial authorities.
The agency said its officers carry out their duties in accordance with the Constitution, applicable laws and established investigative procedures.
The DCI also addressed allegations concerning cases involving reported abductions, disappearances, deaths, police shootings, attacks on journalists and other serious offences.
It said cases falling within its mandate are investigated based on available evidence and maintained that no individual is above the law.
“Neither political affiliation nor public prominence influences the manner in which a criminal investigation is conducted,” the agency said.

DCI Gives Updates on Ngari and Mutiso Cases
The DCI cited the murder investigation involving Reverend Julius Ndumia Ngari of PCEA Tabuga Church in Nakuru North Sub-County as one of the cases where it has made progress.
According to the agency, the reverend was killed on the night of May 3. The DCI said two suspects, Felix Odinga Okumu and Berrily Nafua Atenyo, have been arrested and arraigned before the Nakuru Law Courts.
The agency further said four armed gang members were fatally shot during an intelligence-led operation along the Eldoret-Kiplombe-Soy Road after they engaged detectives in a gun battle.
A loaded Falcon pistol was recovered at the scene, according to the DCI.
The agency said forensic analysis and other evidence linked the gang to the robbery with violence incident in which the PCEA reverend was killed, as well as possible involvement in other criminal activities in the region.
The DCI also provided an update on the investigation into the fatal shooting of Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.
The agency said it had made “tremendous progress” in the case, referring to the press address by DCI boss Mohammed Amin.
The remaining suspects, the DCI said, are actively being sought and will be arrested and arraigned to face the law.

Gachagua Accuses Kikuyu Police Station of Cover-Up
The DCI’s statement comes after Gachagua accused officers at Kikuyu Police Station of involvement in alleged killings and claimed the station had become a centre for planning criminal activities.
Gachagua made the allegations on August 9, while attending a church service at ACK St. Philip’s and Mary Magdalene Church in Gachie, Kiambu County.
He described Kikuyu Police Station as an active crime scene and alleged that officers based there were involved in planning killings across the country.
Gachagua further claimed that some of the officers were protected by senior government officials and alleged that Chief Inspector Mulwa had been shielded from removal by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah.
He also repeated his claim that the killing of Dr Mutiso was linked to an attempt to facilitate the sale of her land, which he said was worth about KSh1.5 billion.
The former Deputy President went further to allege that some officers at the station had become “assassins for hire”, claiming that members of the public could allegedly pay them to settle personal or business disputes.
He claimed officers involved in such operations were paid KSh500,000 each and alleged that three individuals he believes were connected to Mutiso’s killing received a combined KSh1.5 million.
Gachagua also alleged that firearms reported stolen during the Gen Z protests had been removed from government records and distributed to officers for use in killings.
He called on the Inspector-General of Police to release the investigation report into the alleged crimes and urged authorities to dismantle Kikuyu Police Station.
