The Government of Kenya led by President William Ruto has supported the signing of a charter between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and other allied political and armed groups that led to the formation of a government of peace and unity for the Republic of Sudan.
In a statement dated February 23, Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi said the Kenyan government is aware of the peace talks in Nairobi by Sudanese Political Parties, Civil Society, and military groups that led to the signing of a peace agreement and the process of the formation of a unity government.

Additionally, Mudavadi said that the groups and stakeholders in the Nairobi talks have stated that their platform, which includes over 4,000 stakeholders, is actively addressing the root causes of Sudan’s problems and seeking solutions.
“The peace roadmap signed in Nairobi is a testament to the willingness of the Sudanese political and civil society groups to prioritize the future of their country over divisions, and we recognize the efforts of all those who have shown the courage to engage in this dialogue,” he said.
He reiterated that Kenya has long been a proponent of regional and international cooperation and diplomacy majorly in peace and security issues since its independence.
Kenya’s Commitment & Way Foward
Mudavadi emphasized Kenya’s commitment to supporting the Sudanese people as they embark on the critical journey of reconciliation and to address the root causes of the conflict in their country.
He explained that the peace charter provides a good framework for further negotiations.
He added that Kenya expects the signatories to actively engage with their fellow citizens and other parties to the conflict, ensuring they fully represent the interests of all Sudanese as they move forward.
“Kenya recognizes, however, that peacemaking and peacebuilding is an ongoing and dynamic process, and challenges will inevitably arise as Sudan transitions toward a more stable, democratic, state,” he said.

International Community and Unions Involvement in Sudan
Kenya also calls for the continued and enhanced involvement of regional and international partners, including the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN).
Mudavadi said the international community must stay united in its commitment to fully supporting and guiding Sudan’s peace process toward success.
He added that Kenya is ready to offer both technical and diplomatic support to Sudan, as their shared history, regional proximity, and common goals for peace and stability make this collaboration indispensable.
“Together, with steadfast determination and unwavering cooperation, we can help Sudan achieve the lasting peace and stability it so rightfully deserves and enable the Sudanese people to build a prosperous and harmonious future,” Mudavadi said.
Kenya continues to receive heat over its involvement in the Sudan crisis, in what appears to be taking sides with RSF.
