Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, is set to leave for Moscow, Russian Federation, for bilateral talks.
Musalia Mudavadi will meet with one of Russia’s leading diplomats, Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, along with the Ministers of Education and Labour.
According to a March 15 press release, the visit seeks to deepen Kenya-Russia relations and establish a clear, transparent framework to enable Kenya to safeguard the welfare of its nationals residing, studying, and working in Russia.
“The visit seeks to deepen Kenya-Russia relations, particularly in areas of Education, Labour Mobility, Health, Infrastructure and Energy, while strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Kenya and Russia,” part of the press release read.
According to Dr. Mudavadi, Kenya has the potential to export coffee, tea, and floriculture to the Russian market.
Additionally, Kenya has acknowledged the support that Russia has offered in the education sector through scholarships.

Mudavadi’s talks with the Russian government officials will seek to address the situation of Kenyans who may have recently been recruited into the Russian military.
In addition, Prime CS will engage the authorities in the prevention of further cases of misleading recruitment and employment fraud.
To safeguard the Kenyan citizens affected by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Musalia will push for the facilitation of the affected Kenyans.
The Prime Cs will give a lecture before giving a public lecture at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).

Sergey Lavrov is among Putin’s inner circle.
Lavrov, who is currently 75 years old, has served as Russia’s foreign minister since 2004. He had previously served as a permanent representative of the USSR to the United Nations in the 1980s and as deputy foreign minister for Boris Yeltsin in the 1990s.
Sergey Lavrov has, on countless occasions, been termed the right-hand man to Vladimir Putin and a long-term ally of the president.
During his speech in Turkey, Lavrov pushed Putin’s narrative of not attacking Ukraine.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the Press Secretary to the President of the Russian Federation, on November 7, 2025, clarified that on the possible fallout between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lavrov.

The fallout was attributed to Lavrov’s absence from a Security Council meeting, and Maxim Oreshkin was chosen to lead Russia’s delegation to the G20 Summit.
Subsequently, the rift mounted when Donald Trump called off a planned summit with Putin in Budapest last month, following a phone call between Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“Lavrov, like other Putin cronies, has been a parasite in his post for 17 years and uses the post of minister to live beautifully,” the Navalny report said.
