The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has dropped the charges against six Azimio la Umoja One Kenya allied leaders who were arrested during protests.
The DPP withdrew the cases on Monday, April 3 at Kahawa Law Courts, vowing to also drop over 200 charges against Azimio supporters nationwide.
The Azimio leaders who were charged of unlawful assembly and malicious damage of property include Ugunja MP James Opiyo Wandayi, Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo, Richard Chonga (Kilifi South MP), Amina Laura Mnyazi (Malindi), George Yogo Obure and Esther Oromi.
Lawyer Danstan Omari, who has been representing Azimio supporters in court reported that those who appeared before Kibra and Makadara law courts will also be released.

“The court has agreed to release them, and their bonds will be refunded. I thank the courts for being steadfast,” Omari stated.
According to Omari, the accused were not charged legally. He further added that their freedom will bring peace and unity to the country.
The move by the DPP to drop charges against Azimio supporters came after Opposition leader Raila Odinga called of mass protests on Sunday, April 2 evening and demanded that all who were arrested in connection to the demonstrations be released unconditionally.
