Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has criticized other senators for hailing praises at the Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha during questioning.
Sifuna rose to a point of order after Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi commended Nakhumicha for doing a good job as a woman in the health ministry.
According to Sifuna, members of the house ought to keep the CS accountable instead of what he termed as “kissing her behind”.
While questioning CS Nakhumicha, Senator Alexander noted that Sifuna was interrupting the session. As such, he raised his voice at him, demanding silence so as to finish his submission.
“This is not Azimio. Keep quiet and let me speak. Your county has Ksh90 billion pending bills you should not be speaking. The Embu County Speaker is speaking,” he shouted, pointing fingers at Sifuna.

Sifuna Rises to Speak on Praising Nakhumicha
In response, Sifuna rose to a point of order asking members of the Senate to ask relevant questions noting that the discussion was a matter of national importance.
“Standing order requires that you put a question to the CS. We are not here to worship the CS. Ask a question, you cannot give us stories. If you want to give us stories go and see the CS in the ministry.
“We have very few minutes and this is acritical national discussion and debate, we are not here to kiss people’s behinds, we are here to ask critical questions,” he said.
However, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei came after Sifuna, calling him out for using inappropriate language in the house. According to Cherargei, the senators ought not be taught how and where to kiss by Sifuna.
“If you have noticed since morning, the Nairobi Senator has been shouting, belittling and demeaning members and it is becoming a gross misconduct. He should be thrown out.
“Why would you allow the Nairobi Senator to use unparliamentary language by telling us that we are kissing people’s behind. We are not, our kisses are for somewhere else. He must withdraw that statement. We know where to kiss,” Cherargei said addressing the speaker.

Speaker Asks to Withdraw the Statement
Although the speaker asked Sifuna to withdraw his ‘kissing the behind’ statement, he also acknowledged that the senators ought to have used the shortest time possible to ask their questions.
“Senator Sifuna stood on a point of order that Senator Mundigi was wasting time with a long statement instead of asking a question. I made a ruling, and I was very clear. When you are given an opportunity to ask a question, make it short and very clear.
“Senator Sifuna, I would urge you to withdraw the statement on kissing whatever part of the body that you mentioned and make it more parliamentary,” he ordered.
In response, Sifuna replaced his words with ‘massaging’ the health CS.
“Luckily for me, I have the full range of the English language. I will withdraw the statement, which is exactly what is happening, and replace it with massaging the CS for health. Because that is what they are doing,” he insisted.
