The Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee for East African Community Affairs (EAC) & Regional Development, Beatrice Askul Moe, was on Friday, August 9, pressured to explain her source of wealth.
Speaking when she appeared before the National Assembly Appointments Committee on Appointments on Friday, August 9, it was revealed that Moe had a net worth is Ksh100 million.
Moe was compelled to explain the source of her wealth after MP Robert Mbui inquired whether she could address public concerns to dispel any notions that her wealth was obtained from the Turkana government during her tenure as a CEC.
“I have gone through your CV, and you have indicated that you have a net worth of Ksh 100 million. Tell the public how you acquired this money and that you have paid your taxes appropriately so that we can put this matter to rest,” the lawmaker said.
Askul in her response said the net worth comes from her efforts and humanitarian salary and the wealth is not in form of cash but the property they have.
“That wealth is not mine. It is our net worth. There is nothing under me. This has nothing to do with the county government, it is family and community worth,” Beatrice Askul said.
Beatrice Askul, if approved by the National Assembly, will become the first woman from the Turkana community to join Cabinet.
