The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended Dennis Thuo Kimani and presented him before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly fabricating his academic credentials.
In a Tuesday, February 20 statement, EACC notes that the accused used the certificates to secure a position as a Supply Chain Management Officer at the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
“EACC has today arrested and arraigned before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court one Dennis Thuo Kimani, who forged his academic certificates to secure a job as a Supply Chain Management Officer at the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC),” read the statement.
Dennis Thuo Kimani purportedly forged a Degree Certificate in Purchasing and Supplies Chain Management as well as transcripts covering his academic journey from the first to the fourth year in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).
“Dennis forged a Degree Certificate in Purchasing and Supplies Chain Management and Transcripts from 1st to 4th year, purporting them to be genuine documents legitimately attained from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT),”

Accused in Court
Appearing before anti-corruption Principal Magistrate Gichana, the accused denied charges leveled against him including forgery, uttering false documents, and the fraudulent acquisition of public property.
“The accused denied the charges of forgery, uttering false documents and fraudulent acquisition of public property being the cumulative amount of salaries and benefits that he earned based on the fake certificates,” noted EACC.
Further, Thuo was released on a bond of Ksh 700,000 or a cash bail of Kshs 200,000.
The anti-corruption body also noted that the matter will be mentioned on March 11, 2024.
“He was released on a bond of Kes.700,000 or a cash bail of Kshs. 200,000. The matter will be mentioned in court on 11th March 2024,” the statement added.

Crackdown on Certificates Forgery
Recently, the DCI arrested a government official, suspected to have used fake credentials to get a job in the Ministry of Education.
According to DCI, the accused identified as Joash Kimurgor Kirwa, was apprehended for allegedly using counterfeit academic and professional certificates to obtain employment and promotions.
“Joash Kimurgor Kirwa who was wanted for the offence of Forgery of Academic Certificates vide DCI HQ INQ. 16 of 2024 was arrested at Waitaluk location within Trans Nzoia County, ” DCI stated.
DCI in its report also highlighted a staggering 1,280 cases of forged certificates originating from 91 public institutions, as well as 787 cases from various ministries, state departments, and agencies.
This arrest came days after the Public Service Commission (PSC) released a report indicating that more than two thousand civil servants have forged academic certificates.
PSC called on EACC to launch a crackdown to have these public officials exposed and arrested to face the arm of the law for forgery of academic certificates.
