Tech billionaire Elon Musk, founder and owner of the American satellite internet service provider Starlink, has reacted to the news that they are now providing Nairobi City County with reliable internet services.
An X user named Alex had posted a photo of City Hall, which hosts Governor Johnson Sakaja’s office, with a caption suggesting that Starlink is now in charge of internet service in the building.
“Starlink is now providing Nairobi City Hall with reliable internet with speeds ranging between 120 Mbps and 200 Mbps,” Alex said.
He went on to mention that the Starlink system provides both redundancy during primary network outages and the handling of higher data loads.
“We are excited to announce the integration of Starlink satellite technology into our Customer Service Centre, aimed at enhancing and improving service delivery to the residents of Nairobi.
This upgrade will provide seamless, high-speed connectivity, allowing for faster and more reliable access to the Nairobi Pay system,” Alex quoted Starlink’s ICT Infrastructure Chief Officer, Tiras Njoroge.
Musk reposted the City Hall post with the caption “Starlink Nairobi,” confirming Alex’s statements.
Partnership with Telecommunication Companies
He had previously revealed that Starlink will partner with telecommunication companies worldwide as part of its expansion plans.
Musk said Starlink’s direct-to-mobile phone service is exclusively partnering with T-Mobile in the United States for the first year, with plans to expand to other carriers afterward.
Globally, Musk stated that Starlink is starting with one carrier per country, with the goal of eventually serving all carriers.

“Starlink direct-to-mobile phone internet is exclusively with T-Mobile in the US for the first year, then with other carriers thereafter. We are starting by working with one carrier in each country but ultimately hope to serve all carriers,” Musk said.
A carrier refers to shorthand for a wireless carrier, which is a company that provides mobile services.
Other terms used to describe the same thing include mobile network operator, mobile phone operator, mobile operator, cellular company, and wireless service provider.
They are responsible for the infrastructure that enables mobile phone connectivity, including calls, texts, and data services.
Starlink has introduced new competition for Kenyan internet providers since its launch in the country.

Kang’ata Installs Starlink
On August 24, Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata confirmed that the county’s automated healthcare services transitioned from Safaricom to Starlink.
Kang’ata urged the government to follow suit and adopt Starlink, stating, “Government should ignore Safaricom. Murang’a automated its healthcare.”
He criticized Safaricom’s slow and unreliable internet speeds, noting that Starlink offers faster service unaffected by weather conditions.
“Safaricom internet speed drops frequently. The speed is so low. At times 4.7Mbps. New Starlink internet speeds hit 100 Mbps. This saves lives. And it’s not affected by weather,” Kang’ata said.
