Nairobi County Women Rep Esther Passaris found herself in hot water after her response to an X user seeking employment went viral and sparked outrage among Kenyans on the platform.
The user, identified as Jacques Murage, reached out to Passaris, stating that she holds a degree in International Business Management and has experience in marketing.
Murage expressed his frustration with being unemployed, asking Passaris to help him find a job.
“Madam, aki si unipee job niache kukua idle huku twitter. I have a degree in international business management and a good experience in marketing.”
“Trying my luck I only hear politicians help people, but I have not been lucky,” said Murage.
Passaris Responds to the Unemployed Kenyan’s Plea for Help
In her response, Passaris directed Murage to a government website that she claimed advertises over 400,000 diaspora job opportunities.
“Did you listen to President William Ruto on X Space yesterday on the over 400k advertised diaspora jobs on a government website?” she posed.

She proceeded to tag the government spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, and the Statehouse spokesperson, Hussein Mohammed, requesting them to provide the details of the website.
“@StateHouseKenya @MwauraIsaac1 @HusseinMohamedg kindly provide the complete website details for qualified Kenyans to seek the said opportunities,” read her post in part.
However, Passaris’ response did not sit well with many KOT users on X who lambasted her for what they perceived as an insensitive and dismissive response.
Kenyans Criticize Passaris for Her Dismissive Response
One user, Lugasi Fedrick, argued that “the government advertising jobs is one thing, getting those jobs is the other.”
“Hizo Gok jobs without a godfather you are doomed, so that solution you are giving is not workable, madam,” he added.
Another user, RBryan275, went a step further, stating, “The youth have said in very clear language that they want to thrive in Kenya. #RutoMustGo.”
Joshua Initials echoed similar sentiments, questioning Passaris’ understanding of the challenges faced by Kenyans in obtaining passports, a prerequisite for seeking employment abroad.
“Do you know for people to go outside the country they need a passport? Do you know the frustration of getting a passport in this country?
“Can you get in touch with the reality of the country you live in & then come talk about foreign jobs. Are we slaves to be exported?” he asked.
Kenyans Bash Passaris for Her Insensitivity
The backlash continued, with a user named Mwendaa strongly condemning Passaris’ her response.
“This guy said he has a degree in international business and wants to practice in that area, he didn’t say he wants to be a housemaid or cleaner. This Passaris lady needs to be recalled, this insensitivity needs to go,” he said.
Another user, Nick Mung criticized Passaris for seemingly mocking the sacrifices made by parents so that their kids can obtain an education.
“People spend huge amounts of money to attend school from primary up to campus. Parents do harambee just to see their kids go to school and eventually land great jobs.
“And the best you can do is mock their sacrifices by urging them to go to Gulf countries to become maids & guards?” he remarked.
