The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo has addressed concerns about action taken against individuals who attacked Activist Morara Kebaso at the Bomas of Kenya.
Faith was hard-pressed by user Samuel Kasuni on X on Monday, October 7, to issue a statement on the action the society was taking.

In response, the LSK president said that the society was making moves to fulfill its mandate of ensuring accountability for violations of human rights.
Therefore, she noted that they were following up on the matter with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).

“In line with our mandate under section 4 of the LSK Act, the Society takes all reasonable action to defend human rights and demand accountability from public authorities vested with mandate to investigate and prosecute violations thereof DCI Kenya and ODPP_KE,” stated Faith Odhiambo.

Alternatives to Physical Public Participation
Moreover, she asked Kenyans to engage in public participation through alternative means to physical meetings including sending memoranda.
“As we sustain these calls, we urge all members of the Public that Public Participation is not only through physical forums but is largely undertaken through sending memoranda containing views on proposed policy and legislation.”
“This alternative avenue allows you to still have your voice heard, despite your preference not to attend physical forums. Your views count, your opinion matters, send in your memorandum on this and all other matters of importance to you and to our country.”
Speaking on Spice FM, Kebaso said that the attack was pre-planned explaining that there were clear signs that a trap had been laid for him.
“There were enough red flags that I did not see. I had announced my position on my TikTok and Twitter that we impeach both the President and Deputy President and having done that there were people who were uncomfortable with that.”

At the same time, she called on Kenyans to present their submissions rejecting the constitution of Kenya (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2024, which proposes increased terms for the president and other politicians.
According to Faith, if passed, the bill will entirely overhaul the democratic space.
“The political activity in our country continues to raise uncertainty and disquiet among the people. We must, however, keep our eyes peeled on our sovereignty, democracy, and constitutionalism.
“The irrational, ill-advised, and poorly timed proposals to establish additional political positions and extend constitutional terms betray the will of the people of Kenya. We have an opportunity to ensure we affirm what our will is, and resoundingly so.”
